Bhagavad Gita Chapter 10
(Compiled notes)

Note: This is a series of study notes from the translation of Bhagavad Gita by Srila Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada (ISKCON founder) and titled as "Bhagvad Gita as it is". The copyright and content is that of Prabhupada & publishers. My part is simply distilling the knowledge from my self study and notes to share here in simple abridged form.

Brahma Gyan Yoga  -  Yoga of God's Opulences

  • Q - What is the meaning of the word भगवान = Bhagavan = Supreme Person?

  • A - Answer is in 10.1

    • In 10.1 - भगवान = Infinite in six opulences:

      • strength, knowledge, wealth, fame, beauty & renunciation

      • (per Parashar muni, father of Srila Veda Vyas)

  • 10.6 - the 7 great sages and 4 manus all are mind born from Krishna

I am the Lord of all, By Me all are pervaded. Thus knowing, the wise worship me in fixed devotion.

In other words, the Lord proclaims that all & everything come from Himself, Govind..

  • Q - What is the attitude of devotees when they associate with other devotees?

  • A - Answer is in 10.9

I always exist in My devotees' thoughts and knowledge. They talk and discuss about Me with each other and take great pleasure in doing so.

This is the reason for sankirtan, devotee association being such a powerful devotional medium.

For those who genuinely Love me, always thinking of Me, I give them more opportunities to know Me so they can come to Me.

O Arjuna, I am the soul of all beings, situated in them. I am the origin, middle and end of all beings as well.

This verse confirms that the Lord pervades the entire cosmic manifestation of the universe.

That there is nothing beyond Him. That is why He is the Cosmic Yogi.

But to know these various detailed qualities of Me, whats the use Arjun? Just know that with a fraction of My energy I sustain this entire cosmic manifestation.

  • विष्टभ्याहमिदं = pervade I this

  • कृत्स्नम = entire

  • जगत् = world

  • (pervade I this entire world by a fraction of my energy, so what to talk of all My opulence?)

My chosen verse from this chapter:

For those who genuinely Love me, always thinking of Me, I give them more opportunities to know Me so they can come to Me.

This verse is another example of the Lords assurance to His devotees for becoming free from anxieties, stress and worries of the material world. There is no need for that when the Lord of the universe is personally taking care of you. And the Lord is ever ready to do so as the most Loving Supreme father of all, just like an ordinary loving father (or mother) in the material world does take care of their offspring. This is the perfection of Yoga if one can discipline ones mind and activities to be thus situated perpetually in loving service to the Lord. And to know that skill of Yoga is the authority in the form of Bhagavad Gita.
