Bhagavad Gita Chapter 9
(Compiled notes)
Note: This is a series of study notes from the translation of Bhagavad Gita by Srila Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada (ISKCON founder) and titled as "Bhagvad Gita as it is". The copyright and content is that of Prabhupada & publishers. My part is simply distilling the knowledge from my self study and notes to share here in simple abridged form.
Raj Vidya Gyan Yoga - Yoga of Confidential knowledge of God
-
Under My control alone the material energy works to create moving and non-moving creatures. This cosmic yoga of creation and dissolution goes on forever.
-
Not knowing My transcendental nature, fools think I am just an ordinary human. They do not know that I am above all this creation as its Lord.
-
With undivided attention those who worship Me. To those devotees, for their own Yoga development, I preserve what they have and provide what they lack.
This verse confirms that Krishna protects and provides for His devotees at all times. The devotees dont have to worry about anything. For the Lord Himself is their care taker.
-
Leaf, flower, fruit, water -- if one offers to Me in devotion, I accept that for it is offered by him practicing diligently in the self.
-
भक्ति + उपहृत = in bhakti offered
-
प्रयत् + आत्मन: = practicing diligently in the self
-
Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer, whatever you give, whatever you do in austerity, simply offer to Me.
-
Very quickly, he becomes a great soul and attains eternal peace. Arjuna, know that My devotee is never vanquished.
-
Remember Me, Surrender to Me, Worship Me, Salute Me. To Me alone you will come, situated in spirit self devoted to Me.
युक्त्वा + एवम् + आत्मानं = situated in spirit self
मत्परायण: = devoted to Me
This is the guarantee of deliverance from the material world. And this is the guarantee of God!! What higher is there to seek?
My chosen verse from this chapter:
With undivided attention those who worship Me. To those devotees, for their own Yoga development, I preserve what they have and provide what they lack.
This verse confirms that Krishna protects and provides for His devotees at all times. The devotees dont have to worry about anything. For the Lord Himself is their care taker. The devotees simply have to surrender their ego and execute their prescribed duties for the pleasure of the Lord. And the Lord takes care of everything else for His dear devotees. This is thus the most rational, simple and elegant way of living in the material world free from anxieties, stress or worries. A perfect step to Krishna consciousness.
